Securing a sustainable future – where should Farmers and Landowners start?
Farmers and Landowners throughout the UK are wanting to secure an environmentally and financially sustainable future for their businesses, but where do they start?
It is understood that over 30% of farm income comes from the annual basic payment scheme so replacing that reliance could prove challenging.
Over half of Farmers receive up to £30k in annual basic payment with just a small percentage receiving no payment at all.
In England, the basic payment scheme is being phased out, and many farmers are unsure as to how they will survive, however the scheme is being retained in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland for the time being.
Many Farmers and Landowners are not prepared for life without the basic payment scheme but some are now thinking of sustainable way forward.
It therefore seems as though the future for Farmers across the UK will focus increasingly on diversification projects.
Some of those who have been preparing, are looking at diversification projects such as farm shops, glamping and caravan sites.
